I once talked with a guy who was working on designing a new space suit at NASA Glenn in Cleveland. The old ones were found to be vulnerable to the radiation bath of outer space, meaning highly elevated cancer risk for astronauts. But somewhere during the Obama years, the project was cancelled. So, they are still using the old ones.

My impression is that the radiation problem does not yet have a viable solution at the level of an individual EVA spacesuit design. New materials and technologies are needed.
