A lot of words and expressions we consider ‘proper’ English words started out the same way, and over time they were accepted as standard, in some cases even universally - O.K., OK, Okay is understood now in most of the world.
And technology adds a lot of words - like ‘internet’, ‘selfie’, ‘phishing’, ‘ransomware’; the OED adds about a thousand new words a year...

“Veggie” is babytalk; it’s evidence of the ongoing infantilization of American people.
BTW, I don’t use babytalk when addressing very small children. I have too much respect for them to do that.
I’m no longer accepting any new words or terms unless it’s to describe a new invention. Especially ones made by some punk ass rapper or “influencer.”
