Excellent point.
Recall during the RNC, there was no shortage of people on stage talking about there past associations and relationships with McCain.
At the DNC, there was not one single person presented to vouch for Obama or speak to his past.

I think it went over well because McDonald's is an iconic brand across the entire nation. It seems like you can't travel 10 miles in any direction from anywhere in the U.S. and not see one.
It would have had less of an impact on a national scale if the campaign event had been staged at a generic "Joe's Diner" in the same town.

“There is one old practice that you will never see Kamala Harris do. She will never hold or kiss a live baby.”
I wonder how often she (or Obama) shows patriotism?

It would have had less of an impact on a national scale if the campaign event had been staged at a generic "Joe's Diner" in the same town. That definitely played a part. The number of people who have worked at McDonald's is huge. They all had a first day on the job, and most can relate to some of what he went through. (Getting those darned fries into the little bags and boxes isn't easy the first few times you do it, as we saw.)
But the whole thing could have bombed if Trump didn't come across the way he did. That exchange he had with the manager was hilarious. Trump asked "How much are you paying me?" and the manager came back with "How much are YOU paying ME?" And they both laughed.
