Thanks, Jamestown. I see a few additional entries were added since I read that previous post.

So far, the advice has thoroughly confused me. Kaspersky was easy. The advice on Avast varied from it suddenly demanded payment to it to "it's wonderful". I have an Apple Mac, and don't see myself going to Linux. All the kind replies about Windows don't apply. So, is Avast a hidden minefield? Bitdefender? Something else?
