An infant was shot and killed by a toddler-aged sibling in an accidental shooting in the San Antonio Medical Center on Monday.
The incident occurred as four people were in a parked vehicle Monday afternoon in the parking lot of the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Affairs Hospital.
"What we have here is a terrible, terrible tragedy that just occurred," Police Chief William McManus said during a news briefing.
Inside the car were a woman and three children, ages 3, 2, and an infant, aged 10-11 months old.
One of the two older children, whom are toddlers, got a hold of a "long gun" that was in the back of the vehicle, McManus said.
The child handling the gun accidentally pulled the trigger, striking the infant.
McManus said paramedics attempted to save the infant, but the infant died at the scene. The woman and children were there for an appointment, he said.
Police said the investigation is in the early stages and that no charges were being considered as of Monday afternoon.

Mom is moving stuff back there, grabs gun and catches the trigger-boom.
Panics and makes up story.
See, I could be a TV commentator, too.
As plausible as the story we have been told.
