I saw them together in NYC in that era. Someone threw an m80 off the balcony between acts. Fun times.

People generally just hear a few words or a phrase in a song and base their impression of it on that. A good example from an artist other thannIM is Bruce Springsteen’a “Bornnin the USA”. Many people think it’s a patriotic song, but in reality it’s almost the exact opposite. It’s an anti-Vietnam War, anti-American song with the chorus being sung ironically.

In like fashion, the main “satanic” song by IM is “Number of the Beast”, which certainly sounds satanic. But in reality it was written by one of the band’s members about a nightmare he had about witnessing a satanic ritual, one that horrified him. It wasn’t meant to promote satanism at all, but rather to describe and express the horror he felt .

“Killers” hooked me in when I was 15 in 1980 and they’ve been a mainstay ever since then.

It sounds like you and I are roughly the same age.
My first was the "Maiden Japan" live concert EP (with Paul on vocals) which I had on vinyl.
I quickly bought Killers right after that.

I know that Bruce is considered to be the better vocalist, and I don't disagree, but there is something magical about that Killers album with Paul on vocals.
Iron Maiden hadn't locked in to their formula yet, and the songs are a bit more varied in lyrical content (which I like). Also, the band's dual guitar attack was great on the Killers album.

Rest In Peace, Paul.

After Somewhere In Time, they released Seventh Son of a Seventh Son in 1988 (Adrian left after this tour), No Prayer For The Dying in 1990, Fear of the Dark in 1992 (Bruce left after this tour), X Factor in 1995, Virtual XI in 1998, Brave New World in 2000 (both Bruce and Adrian came back to Maiden), Dance of Death in 2003, A Matter of Life And Death in 2006, The Final Frontier in 2010, The Book of Souls in 2015, and Senjutsu in 2021.

They’re currently touring the US and have already announced a 2025-26 tour for their 50th anniversary.

No I didn’t need to look up the years those albums were released.

The day after Election Day I’ll be in Worcester, MA to see the Maiden! Never saw Di’Anno with the band but loved the first 2 albums. I have seen them every tour that has come through New England but one with Bruce. Up the Irons!

If you can remember all those dates you must have avoided the various post show
parties around town. 😉🥴😵😁😁

One thing about the Daily Mail. It makes me glad I’m not a Celeb-U-Tard. I’m referring to the side gossip bar.

What a bunch of sad, pathetic, gross lives these people have.

My wife and kid love me, we get three squares a day. Seems a lot better than what I see here.

It wasn’t meant to promote satanism at all, but rather to describe and express the horror he felt.

I have heard that, and I can see it in some of the lyrics, but I always had a tough time reconciling it with the last chorus:

Six six six, the number of the beast.
Six six six, the one for you and me.

I was a fan, saw them in concert twice back in the 80s, and I still have a few of their songs in my rotation. But I don't have a lot of user for that particular song.

...thru Somewhere in Time. Kinda fell off after that.

I was similar - not quite from the beginning, and lasted one album longer. The Seventh Son album is really good, a nice bounce-back after Somewhere in Time (which I didn't care for.) Can I Play With Madness was a great lead single, and it has several other tracks that are worth a listen.

Yeah, I had forgotten about Seventh Son. And I did listen to that a lot.

Unfortunately, or mebbe not, there was a LOT of alcohol between now and then.. 🥴😁

Nothing exceeds like excess.. 🤩🤩
