Passed some classes?
He be actin’ white!
Thing is, I’d like to see his attendance record first.
Good chance he didn’t show up for class, and if he did, he did absolutely nothing while in class, didn’t bring pencil and paper, the textbook, and certainly didn’t read the assignment. He showed up b/c the truancy officer threatened his mother with some sort of consequences (which I’d never seen enforced) next day, he’d be gone. There were a number of students on my roll I never laid eyes on - but had to produce a grade for, towards the end, I was “encouraged” to pass them. Kids I saw once or twice a semester would be roused out for the state tests b/c they are such a huge deal for school districts - when the kid inevitably scored in the 2nd percentile, teachers are blamed for “not teaching.”
Calls home go ignored, repeatedly - except near the very end of the year when the report card shows mass absences and failing grades and the kid isn’t eligible for graduation - my school sent out progress and report cards every three weeks (he’ll be passed on, though, there isn’t enough room to hold back all the ones who need to be held back). I had to keep a log of how many times I called home. There were many times the mother would call the district office b/c we were calling home too often. Many parent just don’t care.
Of course, the media and some of the public blame the teachers - but so few know what goes on inside a public school classroom, the mass absences, the disrespect for teachers in the classroom, the disruptions from “mainstreamed” psychotic students, the hostile parents who blame us when their kids fail (due to absences, not doing assignments, failing open book tests).
All of this is from a recently retired public school teacher, me, with 33 years of experience in various schools from rich to poor. Husband had 40 years in administration and will tell you the same thing.
I told my kids that they were responsible for their education, not the school. Schools don’t care about you, you are just a number to them.
Everyone here blames the teachers because they hate public schools, but I guarantee you that you put the best damned teacher on Earth in that school and nothing improves because the administration won’t enforce discipline and the parents of those kids are the worst parents on Earth if the kids even know who their parents are.
Because they need to demand administrators do their jobs instead of allowing failed schools to even exist
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Well, the dad SURE didn’t.
Did Tiffany France vote Demonicrat? Then she is partly to blame.
Cannot remember the name of the black college described by Hodge twins. A 5% graduation rate. E.g., if 100 freshmen come in, only 5 graduate.
And, the parents are never to blame, of course.
Failed Algebra I, but passed on to Algebra II.
Knowledge is arithmetically cumulative, but ignorance is exponentially so.
The kid had bad culture. The kid had bad parent(s). The kid had bad classmates. The kid had bad schools and bad teachers.
Without changing the culture, nothing else matters.
If anybody, other than himself, failed him it would be his mother. Is a father around?
Growing up on the farm, If Dad was busy or hungover, when I asked him how to do something he would say, “you have a smart father and a smart mother, you go figure it out.”
Kids take things literally, so I went and figured it out.
What do kids hear today?
And those state & county educrat chief administrators get their high salaries by making sure students are recorded as attending classes, so the government funding keeps rolling in.
Whether students learn anything is irrelevant.
Without grade inflation, said student would have passed NO classes. Stop passing students that have failed.
Guess one data point in the lastest jobs report is accurate, eh?
Deep State is hiring.
I knew, before I opened the article, that it would be Baltimore.
I was in the field and so many (here as well) blame the trans movement..you know letting self identifying boys in girls bathrooms etc. as the fault of teachers.
No way.
In my corporation at least it was TOP DOWN. We had meetings where the principal would tell you what to do (how to accept their pronouns, let them wear clothes like bras etc) and they got their orders from the superintendent which got it from the state. It’s coming from the GOVERNMENT.
Time for her to vote for Trump.
Why is she delaying his entry into fast food?
The teacher’s union is not a victimless crime.
