BALTIMORE (WBFF) – A shocking discovery out of a Baltimore City high school, where Project Baltimore has found hundreds of students are failing. It’s a school where a student who passed three classes in four years, ranks near the top half of his class with a 0.13 grade point average.

“He's stressed and I am too. I told him I'm probably going to start crying. I don't know what to do for him,” France told Project Baltimore. “Why would he do three more years in school? He didn't fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that's the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn't deserve that.”

France’s son attends Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Arts in west Baltimore. His transcripts show he’s passed just three classes in four years, earning 2.5 credits, placing him in ninth grade. But France says she didn’t know that until February. She has three children and works three jobs. She thought her oldest son was doing well because even though he failed most of his classes, he was being promoted. His transcripts show he failed Spanish I and Algebra I but was promoted to Spanish II and Algebra II. He also failed English II but was passed on to English III.

Honestly if many schools were like this the department of education needs to be shut down.
Wrong! I passed FOUR classes in four years. (I kind of slacked off in high school).
He didn’t fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that’s the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn’t deserve that.”
“He didn’t fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that’s the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn’t deserve that.””
Certainly accurate.
In my youth, I was a 4.0 honor roll student with a bright future. Long story short, I failed an important class - my first fail EVER - but the devil is in the details:
HALF of the class failed at semester. My counselor didn’t care, administrators didn’t care. I’ve made the same claim for 40 years, that the teacher - and, by consequence, the school - failed me.
4 decades ago. Whenever I shared this story, all I ever received was silence and obvious judgment.
Well, touche’. Color me shocked. /s And yet the band plays on.
Pathetic.
If I’d had children, they NEVER would have been in a public school.
He didn’t come to class, pay attention in class, turn in any assignments, pass any tests or impress anyone in charge by showing the slightest bit of intellectual curiosity or spark or mere effort of any kind.
The kids getting A’s and B’s in these schools are not like Johns Hopkins pre-meds. They just somewhat show up and somewhat play ball with the school by turning in the occasional assignment. Apparently about half or more of the students at this school do less than that.
The mom didn’t know he was failing till the end of the 4 years?
Seems to me that your story differs in important ways from that being depicted in the story.
Teachers have become the ultimate sluggards. They have little integrity and are focused on their pay, benefits and retirement. They only are tasked to “work” for about 7 months of each year (given all their vacays, holidays and so forth). I believe they also get “teacher training days” which mainly are luncheons to talk about how much they despise the children and how soon they can retire. Pathetic! And to think you are forced to pay property taxes to support this hot mess call “public education”.
This explains a lot to me - I was wondering how the stories about single digit ASVAB scores could be possible.
I get it now.
Poor kid - now he truly is a victim, as it’s clear that NO ONE gave a damn if he ever actually LEARNED anything.
I took the 10th grade off and still managed, and besides, it’s not like it’s a CRIME to falsify official government documents.
The perfect future Democrat voter.
It’s not only in the inner city where failing scores are happening.
Public schools are also hiring foreign teacher, paying them room and board plus salary.
Illegals are learning both English and Spanish and are being taught in their language starting in Kindergarten.
Meanwhile American students receive one unit in Spanish in Middle School and two years in High School.
QUESTION? Are they using the Common Core curriculum?
And remember the state & county educrat chief administrators are (if not the highest paid!) among the highest paid government officials in your state!
Yep. The permanently dependent voter.
Harvard, you hearin’ this. Why Asian kids when you can have this scholar?
His kids and their mothers must be proud.
Um, no.
My story - juxtaposed against the OP’s - demonstrates - ironically/coincidentally - a progressive problem which began decades ago.
Any news of school performance in recent memory affirms that assertion.
Now there’s an active and engaged parent for you. But as you see, she’s got her excuse all lined up
Play ball and take the C makes for a well balanced high school experience, I say.
