With Hurricane Milton hitting winds of up to 180 miles per hour and at such a high speed, scientists are wondering if the storm defies the five category system and should go up to a Category 6.
Florida’s Gulf Coast braced on Tuesday for the impact of Hurricane Milton’s near-record winds and expected massive storm surge, which could bring destruction to areas already reeling from Helene’s devastation 12 days ago and still recovering from Ian’s wrath two years ago.
Almost the entirety of Florida’s west coast was under a hurricane warning early on Tuesday as the Category 5 storm and its 165mph winds crept toward the state at 9mph, sucking energy from the Gulf of Mexico’s warm water.
The strongest Atlantic hurricane on record is 1980’s Allen, which reached wind speeds of 190 mph as it moved through the Caribbean and Gulf before striking Texas and Mexico.
The storm, which CNN called 'the strongest on Earth in 2024,' was described by an Orlando meteorologist as 'nothing short of astronomical.'
'I am at a loss for words to meteorlogically describe you the storms small eye and intensity,' Noah Bergen said.

WTF are you talking about. Milton was at 897 yesterday, and in your own link it shows Milton as the 5th lowest barometric pressure on record.
“But it made a great story for a while. One of the “strongest hurricanes in history” coming so late in the season absolutely proves the global-warming agenda.”
So what do you think, a conspiracy? By whom, The Days Inn cartel? AAA-osditos?
The measurements are made by instruments, not politicians. We’re going to get a heck of a storm surge on the coast. The only silver lining is those areas were just taken out by Helene so the houses are gutted and emptied on the first floor. But this one will go to the 2nd floor. A coworker who lives near the water has a standup freezer stocked with thousands of dollars of expensive beef, seafood, etc. He told me he was going to try to drag it upstairs to his second floor. But a 15’ surge will take out 2nd stories too. The waves on top of the 15’ water, driven by 100+ mph winds will destroy buildings too. No FEMA or politicians involved in that.
ahem ... RainMan is taken as well ... and as of last night at least one of the spaghetti models had Milton going over my house.
I’m talking about the low pressure trough ahead of it that it will most likely follow, not the storm it’s self. I have been on top of it the whole time and it has stayed just South of this low pressure path across. As of right now the true low pressure path goes across the keys. But of course the low pressure line could move North by tomorrow.
If anyone has Alexa ask about the hurricane and see if Bezos has changed amount dead and damage caused. Why would they program that in before it has even hit.

Especially if now it needs a new “CAT 6” classification. OMG how stupid the average consumer of drivebymedia truly is because they actually believe this Scheiße.
“That would be bad. I’m in the Keys and nobody here is preparing.”
Yes, I kind of figured that might be the case. You might consider a “just in case” stance. It makes me wonder if the forecast is misrepresentation on purpose to catch folks with their pants down. And that is why I have been so interested in what happens. Would they deceive on purpose? You bet they would...
At this point now I hope they do end up being right. If it catches you guys down there and you are not ready it will be ten times worse than if it hits Tampa like they say. At least THEY are getting ready up there.
Positive thoughts your way, We should know by tonight what path it takes for sure.
Some on twitter are claiming that there is an autistic hurricane fan site that makes up stuff about hurricanes and Alexa is using that for it’s answers. The whole thing is creeping people out
I just saw a video report and NBC says that Milton has lessened in in intensity and is now Cat 4.
Well that is double plus good. Is it safe for all of the alphabet people to stay now that FEMA will put them on top of the list for federal fun bucks?
read the BOOK!
Andrew had recorded ground wind speed of 145. For comparison, Helene was categorized as the same size and had a max recorded wind gust over open water of 109.
I would like to see some in depth reporting on how the measurements of current storms are made. Their misinformation on Helene has people believing they could survive a real category four storm.
Tampa Bay’s ocean bathymetry makes the region uniquely vulnerable to storm surges. The shallow estuary funnels flood waters into the bay, making it one of the most at-risk places in the world for storm surges. In a worst-case scenario, a major hurricane landfall like Milton could cause 20- or 30-foot storm surges, similar to Hurricane Katrina.
Yes, for a couple hours now. You can track it in real time here if you like... :)

I doubt there is much to loot if the properties were already hit with the Helene storm surge..
“Their misinformation on Helene has people believing they could survive a real category four storm.”
Yes, that got my attention too. Are they being misleading on purpose? Would they? They would love to see everyone in these southern states washed off the map because they are not prepared in the right places.
It’s cyclical, pretty much like all aspects of the climate, always changing.
“It was 180 mph most of yesterday. There was even a brief point earlier in the day Monday where it was listed at 185.”
Yeah I believe it, I saw it at 180 last night before it hit the Yucatan coast.
