Article says the cat was 95 pounds.
So you have to let the lion gnaw you for a bit before defending yourself.

So a mountain lion with a stubbed toe and “scratches” on his back is so much easier to kill, you can do it with a shovel.
With those MINOR injuries, why would the writer ASS UME the lion was starving?
A hammer is a devastatingly deadly weapon. For defense, I’ll take a hammer over a knife anytime. One blow to the head you are saved. Two or three more, the attacker is DEAD!
Did he use a AR-Shovel?
Pump action shovel?
