Field expediency. You use what you have at hand to get the job done.

“As far as killing one (mountain lion) with a shovel, that would take some effort,” he said.
No kidding - must have been a fairly small mountain lion. Chasing an adult male off with a shovel, that I can see.
To: Red Badger
If only we had “Sensible Shovel Laws” the lions would still be alive (and well fed)

Residents around Nederland, a small community in rural Boulder County, said they lost 23 dogs to mountain lions in 2022The mayor of Nederland probably said that wasn't true.

If he’d done this in California, he would have been arrested.
He forgot the old adage: Shoot, Shovel, SHUT UP.

We need shovel control. That would put a stop to SSS!
Do it for the children!

“Because the man suffered no injuries and was never touched by the lion, this incident does not qualify as a mountain lion attack under CPW guidelines,” the agency states.
LOL You have to let it mame you in order for it to be called an attack. Sound like liberal policy.

Just like Trump’s second attempted assassination was not an assassination attempt because the man didn’t fire the weapon................

Unless this lion was crippled I find it very difficult to envision landing a solid blow with a flat head shovel on a moving cat to kill it. They have an 18 foot vertical jump with reflexes like lightning.
There’s more to the story....

That guy was extremely lucky, or something.
I have spent a lot of time with improvised weapons and while a normal yard shovel can be used very effectively against in-close fighting with a face to face human, trying to fight a mountain lion with one seems very awkward and mostly just something barely adequate to hold it off if lucky.

Kind of like democrat officials not reporting crimes so their statistics look good.
To: Titus-Maximus
The cat was on the dog, an easy hit with a shovel.
