That top-tier hourly wage of $39 amounts to just over $81,000 annually, but dockworkers can make significantly more by taking on extra shifts.

Why not? I know of a CEO of a “nonprofit” bl00d bank, where people donate the product he sells, who is making $1.5 Million.

I’m scared. If Kamala were to go after this guy who is a part of the richest 1%, then she has a winning campaign issue. I hope that she doesn’t call him out.

Most Americans are too young to remember PATCO, a union which was disbanded after holding the nation hostage during the Reagan administration.

Reagan fires 11,000 striking air traffic controllers, Aug. 5, 1981

Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (1968)

Time to disband the Longshoreman's union and the Public Employees unions.

“average”

Read the comments from the original poster he addresses the figures.

I did check them and he’s not lying.

From the CBS article, “A more typical longshoreman's salary can exceed $100,000, but not without logging substantial overtime hours. Daggett, the ILA president, maintains that these higher earners work up to 100 hours a week.”

Well working 100 hours a week is not what most do to earn a living.

Bottom line I think Joe screwed up to allow this strike 5 weeks before the election! This could change a lot of voters’ mind when the cost increases, reduced options in purchasing and some losing their jobs starts.

I’d offer a 5% raise every other year or full automation.

“Time to disband ... Public Employees unions.”

No group of gubmint employees at any level should be allowed to unionize because during compensation negotiations there is no representative at the table who represents the taxpayer. We are stuck with the tab regardless of the outcome.

The salary is one thing. If the member ship is ok with that, then so be it. The problem people should have , is the fact the President of the Longshoremen’s union said that he will hurt us. He isn’t hurting the politician, he is directing hurting an unmarried Mom caring for a couple of children.

I doubt the strike would have much of a noticeable impact by election day. That said, if the strike continues to inauguration day then there is a big problem.

I’d offer a 5% raise every other year or full automation.

Inflation has been about 20% for the last 4 years. I'd offer to make up the difference for the last union contract and then yearly pay raises tied to inflation. I'd also tell them we are going to automate whether you like it or not...

I think 4 weeks is enough time for people to get laid off, stores to start to run out of items and prices to increase. Truckers are the 1st to go. Look at the numbers UPS is firing, some is the slow down in the economy but some is planning for the strike effect.

Remember American companies have embraced Just In Time inventory which the port strike will cause massive issues. Some companies have stock piled inventory but how much is enough? 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks supply? Where is this stored, with Just In Time companies do not need large warehouses.

Forget European cars, or their prices are going up if shipped to Canada and moved South. Added costs and time delays…. Time is money!

This is the stupidest move Biden could have made unless it is payback for what the Democrats did to him. Best part, the effects start to hit just before the election and very had to cover this issue up or blame on Trump!
