I had this handy because I recommended it a much younger friend a couple of days ago.
The Elements of Style: The Original Edition
“The Elements of Style”, was first written by William Strunk in 1918 for private use at Cornell University, where Strunk was a professor of English, and republished by Harcourt in 1920 for the public. The concise handbook remains one of the most important and influential English writing style guides ever published. The original edition of the guide is organized into eight elementary rules of usage (such as using the active voice rather than the passive), ten elementary rules of composition (including the rule of omitting needless words), several matters of form, 49 commonly misused words and expressions, and 57 words often misspelled. The result is an efficient and pragmatic guide to help produce writing that is clear and understandable, in which every word is important. In 1957 while at “The New Yorker” writer E. B. White, who had studied under Strunk, called the guide “a forty-three-page summation of the case for cleanliness, accuracy, and brevity in the use of English.” “The Elements of Style” remains an effective and helpful guide for anyone who wishes to write with greater order, simplicity, and sincerity.

Every time that “The Elements of Style” comes up I immediately think that there is no way that Stephen Crane would have ever become an author if his editor had access to it.

Not sure about “greater order, simplicity, and sincerity” but in my world accuracy and completeness are at the top of the list. Way, way back in my lit studying days the writing coach guys liked to point out most publications meant for general audiences were written at the high school sophomore level. And that’s perty much true even in the technical stuff I use even tho here might be a bunch of big mumbo jumbo words that wouldn’t mean much to a sophomore.
You sure that Danish pirate wasn’t in Blazing Saddles? I’ll watch for a guy with swashed buckles someplace in the back. Maybe at the town hall meeting?

I was interviewed by local TV several times. Usually there is a teleprompter but it’s for the moderator (who would read the questions).
No one needs to read the text to know whose teleprompter it was. Kamala was the only one speaking, and the text scrolled to keep up with her. The moderator was silent. The only cover the media could come up with is to claim the teleprompter was for the moderator.
edited to add: The moderators appear to be seated at the same desk, to left and right, as the teleprompter itself. They couldn't read from it. Seating the moderators at the table with the teleprompter makes it easy for Kamala to read from it while appearing to 'politely' look at those posing questions to her. In this case, her audience questioner is shown standing downrange of the teleprompter (green shirt) as well as on a secondary screen. Wonder they all were, or maybe just key questioners were 'downrange' of the monitor like that.
The prompter is front and center for Kamala's line of sight - they wouldn't put the moderator's teleprompter in front of Kamala, much less scroll text for the moderator at the same pace Kamala was speaking. THey can place the moderator's teleprompter so it's not in the center of Kamala's visual range.
Kamala was being coherent on her feet - the only way she could do that is if she was prompted. Her handlers don't want to let her off the leash to say whatever stupid idea comes to her empty mind this close to the election.
As far as getting into a situation where we look stupid, the media, and the Kamala campaign - but I repeat myself, will always portray us as stupid no matter what we say or do. We said Trump was shot on live television before our eyes, and the media hinted it was faked or that the bleeding was from a shard of glass from the bullet which hit the teleprompter. We are saying the Biden regime's response to NC damage is lousy, and the media are saying we are crazy 'conspiracy theorists'.
After the incompetence Kamala has repeatedly displayed, the fact she was reading from the teleprompter is plausible at first glance. We can see a teleprompter text scrolling in front and center of Kamala, and see that it shuts down when they realize they are filming it, and we can trust our own eyes.
The media is now portraying statements about Kamala actually reading the teleprompter in front of her, coincidentally scrolling text at the pace as she speaks, at Right Wing lunacy - what more proof do we need? XD
