Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk's aerospace company SpaceX, has gained over 4 million subscribers, according to a recent post by the company on X (formerly, Twitter).
In the post on X, Starlink thanked its customers and said, "Starlink is connecting more than 4M people with high-speed internet across 100+ countries, territories and many other markets."
On September 24, Gwynne Shotwell, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Starlink anticipated that the company will pass 4 million customers by this week while testifying before the Texas House Appropriations Committee meeting.
Starlink's growth has been accelerating at a rapid pace, having reached 1 million subscribers in December 2022, 2 million by September 2023, and 3 million by May of this year. Starlink's global network now comprises nearly 6,000 satellites, offering internet access in close to 100 countries to both individual users and large enterprises, including major airlines and cruise lines.
Starlink is projected to generate $6.6 billion in revenue this year, a substantial increase from the approximately $1.4 billion it made just two years ago, according to Quilty Space, an industry research and consulting firm. Elon Musk, CEO at SpaceX, has previously said that Starlink's revenue would help fund the development of the company's Starship rocket, a reusable spacecraft.
A family at church installed Starlink a couple months ago, and they love it.
The cruise comment website we use a lot has many positive comments about how great internet is on the ships that have Starlink. I guess most of them do now. (I’ll find out for sure in December.)
“Motorola should not have gone analog......”
Regarding what product(s)?
I bought Starlink because every time my power went out here, it went out at my tiny little cable/internet provider.
I paid for all the equipment (no monthly fees) and the speed is 10x the old provider.
It’s a smart investment for me, just like my Generac generator was.
My experience as well. We live far away from the cities on the only service we could get was ATT. It was spotty at best. When you called an outage in, they would argue with you and tell you but, but, but we show 4 towers near you that are working...etc. Starlink outs at most about 30 seconds, and does not do it very often.
I have 2, soon will get another for our other house and maybe for my AZ home too! Love it, works Great with NO Issues.
Ive had it for four months now and never experienced anything like that. Got rid of Dish network and stream all TV.
Starlink is much more important than the initial revenue figures would suggest. Firstly it has massive national security implications. It is the only communications system the Russians couldn’t jam. Without it, the US and indeed the whole West would be screwed in case of a conflict with Russia/China.
Secondly, they are working on technology that will soon dramatically expand the reach of Starlink. You will no longer need to be in close proximity to a special satellite receiver. That is going to mean bye bye X/Rumble bans in places like France, Brazil and other oppressive countries. There will simply be no way for the local authorities to stop it.
It’s a great service, I have had Starlink for three years as there has been virtually no other choice for my location...I was on a wait list for a wireless local provider and just switched over on Wednesday.
Starlink was $120.00 per month for 165 MBS, my new provider is $58.00 for 20 MBS — the decrease in speed will make virtually NO difference at all to us and we will save $744.00 per year.
Go Elon!
I had it for a year and a half. Don’t worry, it’s coming. And so are the cryptomining and spy scripts they implant.
Where’s the NC Gov?
Has he even held a presser, yet?
Thank goodness for Starlink.
“ I recall that our friend from church would hike alone in Yosemite in the late ‘90s, and he’d take a satellite phone with him in case of emergency.”
********************************************
Now Apple cell phones (iPhone 14 and later - all models) have emergency satellite connectivity. That capability could be literally a life-saver.
That’s cool. Emergency satellite on cellular.
Add my vote of approval. Without it I’d be stuck with either AT&T (dismal) or Verizon (worse) wireless that was so slow the internet speed checkers sometimes didn’t even register. Rural area, not much in the way of other options. $120 a month is worth every penny.
Starlink continues to launch satellites and is expected to have 34,400 in orbit by the end of 2027. At that point, over 100 satellites will be getting launched daily so by 2034, some 238,500 Starlink satellites will be orbiting earth (expected to reach a million by 2040 as the pace will continue to accelerate).
Government contracts for access will be the golden goose.
There will be cell phone / internet access to virtually every corner of the planet before it’s over
THIS I believe is how the prophecy of Revelation chapter 11 can be fulfilled - specifically verse 9 (8-10 context)
Revelation 11:7-12
King James Version
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.
11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.

if i were in a remote area or just trying to be off-grid, i’d do it.
50 mbps+ is good enough for most things
it’s about $100/mon or $1200/yr... x 4m == $4.8b
and that’s not counting additional services (vpn, cloud, ad, etc)
At its current rate of subscriber growth, Starlink will be over 5 million by January 2025.
It will be interesting to see where break even is.
