In German-speaking countries like Germany and Austria, a quarter-pounder is known as a Hamburger Royal.

I once worked for a company that manufactures automated bakery equipment. Part of my job was to install, calibrate and train bakery personnel.
I took a trip to Paris to install the topping machine in the bakery that produces McDonald’s hamburger buns. There were 2 varieties of 4” hamburger buns that were topped with sesame seeds. One was the 1/4 pounder and the other was Big Mac. Once I had all the settings entered and it was all running smoothly, I trained the operators on the machine.
When they chose the variety they were producing, they used a touch screen to choose either “Royale with Cheese” or “Le Big Mac”.
I’m not sure how long it was left that way, but for a time about 20 years ago, the bakery in Paris had those two options for their buns.
