What has 101 suites and villas, views over Bangkok’s Chao Phraya river and costs from $600 per night?

Capella Bangkok, 2024′s ‘best’ hotel in the world, according to ’50 Best.’

That’s the collective view of 600 anonymous global voters, comprising travel journalists, hoteliers and seasoned travel specialists, which determined the results of “The World’s 50 Best Hotels,” announced Tuesday in London’s historic Guildhall.

The hotel climbed 10 places, up from No. 11 on the 2023 list. It has five dining options, including a one Michelin-starred restaurant by chef Mauro Colagreco, plus a “spa sanctuary” called Auriga, and seven riverside villas with private plunge pools.

Following the awards ceremony, the hotel’s General Manager John Blanco told CNBC Travel: “I think we’re numb! So unexpected, flattering, all the adjectives you can think of. For a small brand like Capella … it’s just wonderful recognition for our people. I’m sure everyone back home is celebrating.”

The hotel’s director of sales and marketing, Josephine Ping, added: “We focus on giving guests a true Thai experience. It’s a great reward for everyone and their hard work. Our location is truly unique, local, authentic with a sense of place on the ‘River of Kings.’”

In 2023, bragging rights in the inaugural hotel awards went to Passalacqua in Italy’s Lake Como, which slipped one place to No. 2 in this year’s list.

This is the second time the 50 Best organization has released hotel rankings. It has long produced rankings in the culinary world, releasing “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants” since 2002, and ‘The World’s 50 Best Bars’ since 200

I like the fact that I got to stay at the Desert Inn Las Vegas before it was torn down.

I’m more into 3-6 month stays where there’s a kitchen. Any preferred websites?

You have to go to number 30 before you even get a USA hotel.

There are as many in Mexico as the US.

I wonder how many of them are full of partying illegal alien miggies and hungry Haitians.

Without looking I’m reasonably certain a Trump luxury hotel wasn’t even considered.

Spent three days at the Corinthian in Budapest recently. Marble surroundings and excellent service. Highly recommend for a downtown central location.

The hotels on this list a much higher than a Five Star hotel.

I have been lucky that my company has paid for me and my significant other to stay at some very nice resorts over the last 35 years. None of the ones I stayed in are on this list.

Only one which I stayed in Cabo comes close. This is the type of hotel that had a guy that came around the pool to clean your sunglasses every afternoon. They had another falconer walk around to keep the iguanas and tweety birds away from the outdoor venues. You had your own person valet/concierge. All the restaurants were literally the best food I have ever had. Plus it was included. All the food and drinks in the mini bar were included. Room service was included from 6 am to 12 midnight. No tipping. It was all included.

Access to prostitutes is probably a consideration. And carbon footprint.

The fact is that countries like Mexico can offer better service because their cost of labor is so much cheaper.

The hotel in Cabo I was referring to was the Grand Velas. According to the people who worked there they were paid more there than any other hotel in Cabo. The service was better than any other hotel I have ever stayed at. Hotels in the USA can not afford the labor to offer the service they can in other places in the world. Every room was a suite too.

Cabo now has some of the best hotels in the world. I suspect that the cartels OWN most of them. Therefore, they want us Gringos to go there and spend our money. That way they can launder the proceeds of their OTHER business ventures.
