’Diversity, inclusion, equity’ at NASA

The blatant anti-white discrimination at NASA has led to bloated budgets, caustic work conditions, and many of our best engineers leaving the field.

The spotlight tends to shine on NASA only when a tragedy occurs or when there are issues such as the recent ones with Boeing’s Starliner. The removal of that spotlight coupled with incompetent congressional leadership has left NASA without a strong sense of purpose. This alone would be enough to damage the space program, but there’s another rather large issue: for decades, NASA has engaged in open discrimination against white male engineers. This discrimination has led to bloated budgets, caustic work conditions, and many of our best engineers leaving the field.

The subcontractor issue

Years ago, NASA decided that there were too many white male engineers. However, there simply weren’t enough engineers of other races or of the opposite sex to hire — even with the racially based preferences, mentoring, etc. that NASA has in place. The solution that the government came up with was to let people of other races form “companies” called “subcontrators.” NASA would then give those engineering jobs at Lockheed (LM), Boeing, NASA, etc. specifically to those companies. Those companies would then hire those same white male engineers. The engineers do the same work in the same building, as if they were hired directly by those companies, but now those white male engineers count toward minority statistics.

NASA will publicly claim that this saves money. The reality is that those white male engineers make less than they would if they worked directly for LM, Boeing, or NASA, as a cut of their salary goes to the subcontracting company. Those engineers can never be promoted, as they were hired into that “seat” and not into the parent company. They also lose their jobs...

When you hire an engineer you expect a white guy with plastic rimmed glasses, bad haircut, and wearing a short sleeve dress shirt, who can tell you about the hot/crazy matrix.

And it is DoD too, not just NASA that does this.

It's an absolute joke and a waste of time/money.

I've seen the set-asides on the DoD side go to a small business (women, minority, veteran, etc.) only to come back to us because they couldn't make the products the contract they bid on required.

It was an interesting conversation with the Program Manager and contracting office when they told us we only won 80% of the contract, even though we were the only company in the industry that could produce what was needed for the contract.

So the contract office wanted us to be the Prime for 80%, and yet gave away another 20% to the minority-owned business which they wanted to buy from us and then pass it through to the DoD. When I received the quote from this other business, I just "No-quoted" it. That caused a bit of a stir because now there was a contract that couldn't be completed by this other vendor. Luckily, we had a really good Program Manager to work it.

bureaucracy is always the death of any project, not counting politicians. I remember when president Reagan lit a fire in our minds and hearts of seeing an American streaking across the sky like a meteor. The X-30 program (funded by Nasa) made some incredible achievements in a short period of time before it was later gutted. What have we done with hypersonics 35 years later. There are some smaller company efforts now that appear promising.

This type of hiring is done in construction contracts with state and federal government all the time. The contractor is fronted by a minority. Everything is a lie with democrats.
