My favorite, Barcelo Anejo, is not on the list.

Almost all of these are over my price range. I drink in the $40-$50 a bottle price range, probably because I have rum of one kind or another almost every evening. I could never afford a $100 bottle except as a sipper.

Sailor Jerry or Captain Morgan Spiced Rums are good and widely available, at least in my area.

I keep Bacardi Gold or similar in the house because it makes my wife’s excellent pecan pies even better.

Many moons ago in my misspent youth when I used to travel to Puerto Rico regularly on business I always brought a few bottles of Ron del Barrilito home. Best I ever tasted. I was never big on hard liquor, but I could sip on that stuff.

Repeating my post from the gin soaked column:

I have read the best rum is not sold in the U.S. it is Tortuga rum and I have always wanted to try it since reading that.

Anyone try that?

I know it's now supposed to be considered garbage because it got bought by a big conglomerate, but Zaya was a good sipper.

It was the first one I drank by itself with just ice and no pineapple juice, etc. and it was smooth and tasty.

I tried to find rums recommended to me by YouTube channels, but the only ones I could find on the shelf were supposedly trash or in the locked cabinet with ridiculous price tags.

"the best way to not get me to drink a specific spirit is to tell me I’m supposed to drink it on a specific day."

I'll drink when I'm goddamned ready!...You got that?

Saint James rum from Martinique is superb!

"Vieux Rhum / Agricole / Saint James / Le Rhum Aussi A Son Grand Nom / Plantations Saint-James Martinique / Depuis 1765"

There are at least 15 rum distilleries on the island, promoted as "the rum capital of the world" to attract tourists.

Brought some back from there in 1992. Worth the trip.
