New questions are being raised over the Secret Service's protective capabilities after a gunman was spotted hiding in the bushes yesterday as former president Donald Trump played golf in Florida.
Agents opened fire on would-be shooter named as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh after eagle-eyed agents detected him pointing a rifle through a fence lining Trump's private golf club in West Palm Beach a few hundred yards away from the president.
The FBI described it as an apparent attempted assassination on the GOP nominee.
While the Secret Service has been praised for its swift action in foiling the attempted attack on the presidential nominee, Trump's allies have said further measures have to be taken to protect him, with Republicans demanding that Trump receive the same security as President Joe Biden.
Trump's detail was beefed up significantly in the wake of another attempt on the former-president's life back in July, in Butler, Pennsylvania, with the secret service even pulling agents from President Biden's detail to bolster that of Trump's.
However, the fact that the shooter was able to get within 300 to 500 yards of Trump on Sunday has highlighted that issues exposed by the July shooting still need to be addressed, and the challenging task faced by Secret Service to protect him.
New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, the House Republican Conference chair and a close ally of the former president, said she was grateful Trump was safe.
'However, we must ask ourselves how an assassin was allowed to get this close to President Trump again?' she asked in a statement.

Not sure they had eyes on the suspect. It says they saw the barrel of the rifle sticking through the fence.
They may not have actually seen his body?
Facing questions? Is that a step up from a stern letter?
“How did this shooter know to be there that day?”
He made a correct guess.
(Trump’s plane in town, published schedule information, time for golf available, limited number of courses, limited number of main roads to courses, security detail size and prominence, lack of other golfers on a course on a Sunday)
“Process of deduction, my dear Dr. Watson....”
“How did this shooter know to be there that day?”
He knew well in advance. He camped just outside the course the night before. I doubt Trump’s plane had even arrived. I’m also curious about the range setting on his scope.
Bongino asking the effing obvious question... “Is there a mole inside the DHS and/or SS? Is someone feeding information to someone... like where Trump would be an available target for another attempt.
The story today is that he was “camped out” there for 12 hours prior. That would rule out following the motorcade to the golf course.
Bolstered?
By what DEI miscreants?
But then there’s the question implied in the report that the shooter was there for at least 12 hours. How is the USSS not constantly sweeping the environment, using drones, helos, etc...?
Time for private security and several body doubles.
SS detail Bolstered with what? DEI transgender breastfeeders?
“Trump needs to end the ego-stroking rallies that please thousands and focus on media-based marketing messages that will win over the votes of millions.”
Way to cave, Brian.
Yea, its Trump’s fault.
We live in F****** El Salvador.
But more importantly, they did know the guy was there, and did have him under observation. The moment they saw a weapon, they shot. It doesn't seem to be that it was illegal for other people to be in the vicinity of the golf course, so they had to look out for suspicious activity, which they did. Successfully.
Maybe stuff will come out that makes them look worse -- I'm not making some categorical statement that they did everything perfectly. But at least in the context of the massive FUBAR that was Butler, this was much, much better.
Why was the SS not periodically walking the perimeter fence? No excuse.
Hypothetical……..let’s say evidence revealed that the ghost CIA, run by John Brennan, the Trump annihilator or any other spook was responsible for these assassination attempts. Does anyone really believe we would know?
BINGO! You got it. He knew he was coming that day. He infiltrated the area during the night and waited. This was planning with knowledge. Oddly his choice of weapon was poor. His planning was poor also. With a Gilly Suit and a rifle that had camo on it, the agent would have never spotted the shooter and a good chance that Trump would have been killed.
The real question is how in the hell he knew Trump was coming. This was an unannouced vist. Only Trumps close associates and the secret service knew of this. Either the shooter is clairvoyant or there is a mole in Trumps associates or the secret service. My bet is the secret service.
Odd is it not that the left screams about gun violence and it is always the leftist nuts encouraged by hate rhetoric of the left that is shooting at the right? The boys on the right have many adept deer hunters, they would not miss. We do not shoot at the leftists. We are law abiding citizens. Those leftist bastards shoot at us. They are inspired by hate speech of the left. They compare Trump to Hitler, Mussolini, and dictators. In WWII to kill Hitler or Mussolini would be a patriotic act. The leftist hate speech inspires these nuts to shoot at Trump. They think they are patriots. The left owns this!
Here is some help for the Secret Service.

Maybe stuff will come out that makes them look worse.
Today’s news contains an article in which the USSS admits nobody searched the golf course. Admittedly, it’s a large area, but if the USSS can’t handle a challenge then it’s time to hire elsewhere.
And a second article ID’s the Miami SAC, whose jurisdiction included the golf course and Mar-a-Logo, is a longtime vocal anti-Trump operator.
And this is only two days afterward. Stay tuned; something rotten is afoot and th USSS may not deserve your praise after all.
