Actually it is likely to do the exact opposite. Though caffeine has a diuretic effect on the kidneys — especially in high doses. Diuretics cause your body to make more urine than usual. Caffeine may do so by increasing blood flow to your kidneys, which spurs them to release more water through urine. By encouraging urination, compounds with diuretic properties like caffeine affects your hydration status.
I visited my doc for hives and foot skin problems a couple months ago. She saw my dry, cracked soles and asked home much water I was drinking. I made a guess and added my coffee consumption. She said “coffee doesn’t count and may DEHYDRATE you.”
It’s the only liquid I drink. I’m 80...and want to flush the salt out of my system....so the big thing is fluid, fluid, fluid.
I just googled...and there’s 100 sites that say it is unlikely to dehydrate you...and they’re all big med sites.
