What are good 0.177 Caliber Air Rifle Pellets
Free Republic ^ | September 13, 2024 | Pontiac

I have a Gamo 1000 fps .177 caliber air rifle that I am using to teach my grandson to shoot.

I bought Daisy pellets for ammo and I think that they are a bad batch because I can't get a consistent grouping.

I am at best 12 inch groups at 20 yards.

I am looking for recommendations for good quality pellets.

I put a different scope on mine and sighted it in. I can group about an inch to 2 inches at 50 yards. Further than that it’s a crap shoot.

Use the raptor pellets. That’s what we use in ours.

This is what I use in .177 it is around 1250fps with the pellets I use. And the range isn’t 50 yards, it’s feet for the 1-2” groups. It’s good but I changed out my scope for my old eyes. I think most of the problem is operator error on my part. IMG-4323

You need to put at least 100 pellets through it to break it in.

Gamo, Beeman, and RWS have served me well. I have an RWS model 134 made in West Germany.

I have a scope from a crossbow I am not using.

Maybe possible?

Spring piston airguns are notorious for destroying scopes. There is a two-way recoil surge that can turn the internals into loose parts. It used to be that you bought a high-end big game rifle scope designed for very heavy recoil, or a specialized airgun scope. Nowadays there are decent, relatively inexpensive scopes designed to handle that two-way "snap," but a person needs to do some studying to make sure it will hold up to a powerful springer.

The UK is way ahead of us in sussing out what works. Picking up an issue of a publication like Airgun World reveals a bit of what is out there.

JSB Exact Diabolos shoot well in everything I’ve tried them in.

Heavier pellets (not necessarily the heaviest) are also a better option than the lightest .177s.

Unless you are shooting a quality PCP air rifle, any and all break barrel air rifles are ultimately crap, and you are never going to get consistent shot placements. So it doesn't matter what pellet you use.

For my PCP Brocock Atomic XR, I shoot the EXACT Diablo .177, 8,44 gr.

And for my PCP .22 Brocock Sniper XR, I shoot the EXACT Jumbo Heavy Diabolo, 18 gr.......

Consistency with Daisy brand has been disappointing.

Freeper shout out for teaching the little crumb munchers how to shoot.

I am at best 12 inch groups at 20 yards.

With my three PCP's, I will get 3/4" inch groups at that yardage......

Get up out of your chair and pull that cactus out of your butt. Buying A daisy red rider is not going to collapse the united states government and you are not a commie for buying one.
