A tearful Jordan Chiles opened up to a live audience on Wednesday about the Court of Arbitration for Sport's decision to strip her of her bronze medal from the floor routine at the Paris Olympics.
'The biggest thing that was taken from me was the recognition of who I was, not just my sport, but the person I am,' Chiles told the Forbes Power Women's Summit.
Chiles initially finished fifth in the eight-woman final before Team USA coach Cecile Landi appealed Chiles' score, asking to receive credit for a maneuver that would boost her score by .1. The appeal was granted, moving Chiles into third. She was awarded the bronze and participated in the medal ceremony following the competition.
However, Romania successfully protested to the CAS that Landi's appeal was not made within one minute of Chiles' score being posted, and the panel has since ruled the bronze should go to Barbosu. The International Gymnastics Federation reinstated the initial order of finish and the IOC announced on it would reallocate the bronze to Barbosu, who received the medal during a ceremony in Bucharest last month.
'To me, everything that has gone on is not about the medal,' Chiles, who is African American, told the crowd on Wednesday. 'It's about my skin color, it's about the fact that there were things that have led up to this position of being an athlete, and I felt like everything has been stripped. I felt like back in 2018, where I did lose the love of the sport, I lost it again. I just felt like there wasn't a lot of people supporting me.'

Actually she was not better than Chiles- the judges messed up and admitted as much. But so much for the facts...
Blame your coach...the coach screwed up. So she’s saying the coach is racist I guess.
Facts are the coach didn’t appeal in time. The coach is the idiot/cheater to blame.
There was never a ground swell of support and it looked like internal politics between different countries.
And football season started right. Of course people were gonna move on, oh and the female athlete that has people’s eyes is Clark, not anyone who competed in the games.
no disputing that...but she was not better than Chiles in that event, and the judges admitted as much by adding .1 to her score...
There was video evidence that was submitted Sunday that the appeal was made 13 seconds before the deadline...it should count for something. And .1 point is .1 point. Too bad for the Romanian!
So I guess the fight is ongoing!
I could see holding the team to the one minute ruling if the appeal involved a judgment call made by one of the judges, but if it were a true mistake in calculating the score then the time limit should be waived.
I think it was political. The United States was racking up the medals and the judges wanted to "spread the wealth around" to other nations.

She was chunky, her act was clunky and not graceful. She screwed up a couple of landings. The girl from Romania was much more graceful and her act was flawless. The Olympics wanted an all black medal stand.
Waaah, go cry to Kamala about it.
I agree. Though her blaming the mistake/misfortune on her skin color is facile.
Lets see how many eyes are left now that it's come out that Clark liked Swift's instagram support of Harris.
Wait until she has to compete against a man and gets trounced.
I watched them both on youtube. Jordan was sloppy.
That’s great but you’re not a judge...they would not have given her the .1 on appeal if she did not deserve it...
And for the record- i most certainly was not rooting for her or Biles...
What a nation of whiners we’ve become.
They should give her a special ‘Black Medal”
A minute is the rule though. Don’t like it change the rules first. But that doesn’t make it racist that she didn’t win.
“Facts are the coach didn’t appeal in time. The coach is the idiot/cheater to blame.”
One minute window. OC said coach was SIX SECONDS late. Coach says otherwise.
Power Women’s Summit? They should be more concerned about men taking over their sports.
