Led Zeppelin.....sadly

You still have the albums. They were at the point where it would have been diminishing marginal returns, if “In Through The Out Door” was any indication.

I kept many things on that list, up to a few years ago.

Now, I have only a few things from that list.

Most importantly, undeveloped film rolls.

Does anyone know how I can get them developed without mailing them away?

Weren’t sales of Polaroids in the 1970s driven by swingers?

Instant cameras and film predated the swinging 60s and 70s by 30 years. While people who wanted photos without waiting and/or wanted anonymity were significant, police officers and investigators who needed to capture images before any evidence could be damaged or removed were a very large driver of sales.

Instant cameras that use film, while they've decreased in use, are still manufactured and sold today. There's still a need to capture and 'freeze' images, and in the age of Photoshop, they become more critical. I've heard of photos being taken of contracts to preclude digital alterations.

Re: Developing film rolls without mailing them away.

A nearby photographer who has a darkroom can develop them for you. They'll likely be an older individual who's done weddings, portrait, and yearbook work, or freelance work for newspapers, technical documents, or corporate publications. They may have taught classes at a nearby college.

There are still freelance photographers who use film for nature and art photography and develop their own photos. If you have arts and crafts fairs near you, you may run into several of them selling their art.

You might find a photographer through a hip coffee shop that sells art through consignment. Most of the photographers will identify if their photos for sale on the walls are film or digital.

A picture frame shop likely works with local photographers and can also give you some names. Staff at large arts and crafts chains such as Michael's can help since they'll often frame larger prints from photographers.

Those are great suggestions. Thank you.

Many family photos were lost. Then, when I found a few old disposable cameras, my heart sank because the film might not even be possible to develop now. They must be 20-30 years old. One has photos from a foreign trip, but I’m not sure which one. As for the others, I have no idea what pictures they hold, if any. I also don’t know which cameras were mine. If a camera belonged to someone else, I have no idea what pictures it might contain.

My grandmother had a rotary phone until 1995. That was the year the phone company installed TouchTone.

A rotary phone will still work. At least if you have a landline.

My Jarts set (which I still have) had very pointed tips with sort of rounded ends. Not sharp, per se, but I’m sure would penetrate if thrown ...

I do the beard thing now as well; never make it to ZZ Top level but Grizzly Adams-status is always just around the corner.

When I was a kid, Star Wars toys were a big thing. You don’t see that anymore. Oh wait, you do, but they’re a lot faggier now.

We still use our Sears 60-70’s canister vacuum with the self retracting cord. It is still better than the plastic models they sell now.

Kids running around the neighborhood.

Burning your trash in metal cans.

Dystopian and depressing sci-fi movies about the future (until Star Wars).

Gas rationing on odd/even days depending in the last digit on your license plate.

Wage and price controls.
