"Every other day, we would go to a bar. We would have the exact same conversation,” Van Zandt explained. “We would get drunk. He’d say, ‘I’m done. I’m not going back.'"
“I would say, ‘Okay. You’ve got a hundred people depending on you here,” he continued. “He’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah, okay.’ He would come back. But a few times, he would disappear for a few days. You know, it just got to him.”

I find the reruns of this series utterly unwatchable because of the disgusting characters portrayed on the show. It’s depressing to think that people like them actually exist.
Thank you!! Appreciate it.
Thanks so much!! God bless you and yours too.
You're right about that. And it's only gotten worse. We used to tell people to remember that not all the criminals were behind bars. And that statement is more truer today than it was 40 years ago, because so many criminals are released right back onto the street, and usually have 15 or more previous charges for the same thing.
Agree 100%. What is on the screen is a reflection of what is in the writers minds and hearts. A lot of it is very dark and even sick.
No. I've only kept in touch with one other person I worked with at Auburn when I first started in 1980. I meet her and her husband occasionally at the casino near me for lunch. I know Cuomo and Hochul closed several prisons, and she plans on closing at least 6 more. My friend and her husband were volunteering at a Teddy Bear project in Syracuse a month or so ago. At the same venue, the State had two correctional officers set up to get people to sign up to take the exam. I couldn't understand why the State was even bothering to give an exam, because once they close those prisons, all the staff, both uniformed and civilian will be bounced around the State to other facilities, and the people that were recently hired will be terminated or laid off. It happened in 1989 or 1990. They'd brought in extra staff, and promoted officers to Sergeant because certain facilities (mine being one of them), turned one of the gyms into double bunking to alleviate the overcrowding at other prisons. When they cleared the gym of inmates, those jobs went south. Those Sergeants were only in temporary items, and they had to go back to their permanent officer positions at the facility they had been promoted from. They laid off a bunch of new officers then too.
Same here. None of the criminal shows interest me. Give me a show like Longmire or a movie like Master and Commander.
Me too. But not necessarily for the reason you stated.
(Deputy Moretti sometimes forgot to button that top button.)
Being retired law enforcement anything that glorifies criminals bugs me. I spent 25 years around them. They’re selfish animals and not to be admired.

I had only known him previously in the Sopranos and was amazed at his performance in The Mexican.
Incredibly versatile.
I read that over 60 people were whacked on the show.
Every week it was who gets whacked.
I agree with you.
I like pizza.
I was totally addicted to that show.
My great-uncle and cousin were in a “family” - a well-known family. The show reflected some of what was told to me by him, and some of what I witnessed, sans any murders, he wasn’t involved in that element of the family, but my cousin, who knows - he was a bagman and shakedown member.
My uncle spent half his life in prison because he wouldn’t rat out the family. He even tried to get me to work for him when I got out of the Army in ‘82. But being a good Christian and not having a criminal bone in my body, it was easy to refuse. However, in the back of my head it was a tempting offer, one I almost couldn’t refuse.
I think of The Sopranos as more of a Dark Comedy.
Definitely!
Breaking bad? Never watched it, it was not a comfortable subject. Anyone cooking meth deserves to die in a fiery explosion, before they sell the crap.
Sopranos, I watched it this last winter 2023-24. I thought it was okay. I watched Boardwalk Empire as it came out, it was far superior.
Gandolfini was a lisping actor, who never pulled it off. The supporting characters seemed interchangeable. Sometimes, I couldn’t remember their differing names. In short, they didn’t stick out.
I have a working remote, and FF through sex parts in all instances. I even watched “The Walking Dead”, fast forwarding through most of the grizzly stuff. It got to a point though, where the stories and characters were smothered in gore and killing. I was enjoying it, then one day I said enough. What am I doing to my soul?
