I can see getting probation for your first petty offense, like stealing a candy bar. But now kidnapping gets you probation.
In the old days that was a capital offense.

I have a solution for this. I’ll state it this time. Make it a law that if you kidnap someone, and the person dies, you die. If they live, your thumbs are cut off and your spinal cord severed at the waist. Whatever family you have has to take care of you. If no family, then you hit the streets in the wheelchair and see how long you live.
