It sounds a bit like the approach used to receive weak radio signals from deep space and other planets in the solar system. However, as described here, it seems that a PCR test would only be useful if the patient has a pre-COVID baseline (and even then subject to strict limits on number of cycles).

Misuse of what, under the right circumstances, could be a useful technology.

PCR is highly accurate at detecting its base pair targets present in SARS CoV 2.

The problem is that the clinical virology and natural history of the infection are poorly understood.

Antigen testing in the clinical setting is more useful.
