A sister lives in NC and I emailed her to find out if she’s okay. She’s outside of Ashland on top of a very big hill. As long as she’s home she’s probably okay but hope she has supplies and electricity. She’s lived there for decades so knows a lot of people who likely are affected.

My niece lives in Asheville, and was out of touch with the family since the night of the hurricane. A nephew from another sister had a friend that lived in Asheville, happened to live just a couple of miles away, so he rode his motorcycle to her place and checked on her. She has no power, no phone service, but she’s doing Ok.

Helps to have extended family. My sister and my niece’s daughter were both very relieved with the news.

A cousin’s family also lives in the area. They had to cut a path down their own driveway, only to find that the street was blocked by downed trees in both directions. Still, people are starting to dig out slowly.
