Quick hurricane slide...

A guy I worked with in Michigan had a girlfriend living down in his place in Florida (Marco Island south of Naples IIRC). While he was in MI, there was a hurricane coming from the Atlantic side, so she calls him up and asks if she should evacuate.

“No”, he says. “The hurricane will dissipate as it comes across and you’ll be fine.”

The next morning she sees that the track has gone south more, and the land mass may not necessarily protect her so she calls him again.

“Should I leave?” she asks.

“No, it would take a lot for the hurricane to swing north and hit you. But if you’re worried, go talk to the neighbor behind us and see what he says. He’s stayed through a lot of hurricanes.” he replies.

A short while later she contacts him again.

“So, what did he say?” he asks her.

“He didn’t say anything. I went over there and he’s gone, the place is boarded up! Now what should I do?”

“Get a basket, and get all the grapefruits out of the tree.” he tells her.

“WHAT?!” she exclaims. “A hurricane is coming and you want me to pick fruit?”

“Yes” he says. “At 120mph, them things can really damage a place.”
