A would-be burglar in Rome was caught after stopping to read a book on Greek mythology in the middle of a theft, Italian media reports. The 38-year-old reportedly gained access to a flat in the Italian capital's Prati district via the balcony but became distracted after picking up a book about Homer's Iliad on a bedside table. The 71-year-old homeowner is said to have awoken and confronted the alleged thief, who was engrossed in the book. News of the failed burglary attracted the attention of the book's author, who told local media he wanted to send the man a copy so he could "finish" his read.

What a great story! thanks for posting, I’ve shared it with 2 non-freepers that I think will find it most amusing.
The people who we’ve promoted into stealing are not gonna sit down and read anything except their tally sheet to make sure they didn’t steal over $900.

Before I scrolled down to read the details, my first thought was he was reading “Hermes the Thief” by Norman O. Brown. author of the widely praised Love’s Body and Life against Death.

Some years back there was a story of a Russian dude who broke into a house in Russia, and after gathering loot, sat down at the piano and started playing and singing loudly until police arrived. Might have had a bit of vodka too.
