My mom was the same. Always wore a dress, even when just going to fill the car or shop for groceries. Most women did in the 50s and early 60s. Now looking like a slob is the height of fashion.

You are so right. Just search for "Manchester Nightlife" on YouTube to see what young women in the UK are wearing when they go out these days. It is astonishing, distressing, and far from attractive. My theory is that they get caught in a vicious cycle trying to outdo each other by looking for the lowest common denominator in what they believe will attract a man. The result is a plunging spiral to the depths of bad taste. There are many sad aspects to this journey to the ultimate kitsch, but the saddest is to think that not only did these girls spent hard earned money on such costumes, but to imagine what sort of male they might ultimately attract.

S ame goes for airline flights. Old pictures look insanely uncomfortable for long flights.

You dress properly for the people around you, including airline staff. There are travel clothes that are loose and comfortable and still proper. Now everybody dresses like a3 year old boy.

Throughout the movie "Rear Window", Grace Kelly wore high-end dresses or outfits borrowed or bought from the high fashion store where she worked. She only wore pants in the very last scene to prove to James Stewart she could dress down to go with him on his photography assignments. (And, yes, I've watched this movie many, many times. LOL One of my favorite Hitchcock movies. :)

glad you brought up Dr. laura. was working on a job some 25 years ago installing a high end kitchen when I thought I heard Dr. Laura on someone’s radio a few rooms over. walked to the living room and there was only the flooring installer with long hair, heavy beard and biker tats working that room. after looking around for the other guy I thought would be working in the room too, I asked him if he was listening to Dr.laura on the radio. he stood up, about 6’2”, looked me dead in the eyes and said “Yea...what about it”. I slinked back to my kitchen install. it was one of those incidents in life that just makes you wonder.
