Sorry someone beat me to it-please remove.
The only thing good I can say about him is that he married “that girl”.
Didn’t he write a personal check to a prostitute? Among a long list of other nutty things he did...
Poor ole cray cray RAT Phil. He gonna miss all the Joy y’all.
Some of us didn’t see an earlier thread so let it stay.
“...you ARE the father!!!”
RIP.
Yeah...this was the idiot who got mad at everyone who exposed Bill Clinton for being a sleaze ...instead of getting mad at Bill Clinton for being a sleaze.
I remember he was on Larry King following 9/11 and he was angry we were blaming muslims for what happened.
I was actually a fairly consistent watcher of his show.
He is one of those guys that when he dies I have to scratch my head when I see conservatives give him decent words. He probably did as much as any other 1 person in media to hurt the conservative cause. He was relentless in attacking the right, in any form. Be it gay rights, law, abortion you name it.
This one quote from ‘16 or so should suffice:
“ Former talk-show host Phil Donahue on Saturday reflected on President Trump’s administration, calling it “the darkest political moment in American history.””
Worse than the civil war
Worse than the assassination of JFK
Worse than the resignation of Richard Nixon
Worse than the failure of the US state department in many of their decisions
Worst ever….
I still remember, long ago, when he broke the ‘gay barrier’ and had people on the show say something like “I’m John, and I’m gay”. I was a pipsqueak and because they weren’t allowed to recruit in our schools back then*, I actually still thought the term “gay” meant happy...but these people looked miserable.
*now they only recruit in those ‘other schools’, not the schools you send your kids too. Right? (obviously not pointing at you, DirtySecret)
Wow! It’s one of those rare times where someone, who I really thought died years ago, recently dies.
Have to give him props for having a 44-year marriage; not so easy with two celebs.
Phil Donahue repeatedly put NAMBLA on his show so they could be exposed (repeatedly) while receiving a public introduction and mainstreaming (repeatedly) or to argue their case (repeatedly), you decide.
I’m going by memory about more than one NAMBLA appearance on the show because search doesn’t work very well on the question.
I thought he was in his 80s 40 years ago.
Godspeed.
I’ll be quiet too. An insufferable lib but he at least gave Milton Friedman a platform … more than once. Without him I doubt we would have had Oprah and Ellen and Rosie and Drew B et al. Whether that’s a good or bad thing…. Well….
Alain Delon, Phil Donahue…. Who’s next?
I thought “legendary” meant that he didn’t really exist.
I was flipping the channels yesterday and Marlo Thomas turned up as “That Girl.”
I wonder if God or the universe was sending a message.
