Why isn’t gain of function research considered a crime against humanity? It is clear that some group of people is trying to kill hundreds of millions or billions of people - and they all need to die a very slow and painful death to serve as an object lesson to future, like-minded fiends.

The reasons given for the activities are specious (e.g., to prepare for fighting possible variations of a disease) and the controls placed on these researching entities are wholly inadequate. It amounts to ‘playing God’.

Gain of what function? I can think of 10 better terms that would describe that and most people would immediately know what it means.
