I think it’s more an issue of letting non-property owners vote.
Non-property owners work and pay taxes. They have a stake even if they don't "own" property. Their time and sweat is their property, too.
For a country born largely of resistance to taxation, we certainly have lost our way.

I agree. Where I live almost 85% of the local budget ( and most of the budget is is schools) is paid for with real estate taxes and mainly residential taxes while less than 50% of the residents own homes/property.
Good point. A voting citizen should have a stake in the country, and owning property is a good sign of that stake.
But I’m waiting to hear if others agree or not.
I think it's also an issue of letting people who do not pay income taxes vote on tax issues, bonds, initiatives, anything that involves spending tax dollars. They don't pay and therefore have no incentive to curb government spending.
