To the ancient Greeks the “world” was the Greek world with some “fringes” along the edges :) — kind of like the Chinese “middle Kingdom” point of view.
As an aside - this was also the view to some extent in the united Roman empire that “the world” meant “the Roman world” and the rest were, well, exotic “rest”
Historically, culturally, linguistically speaking there were no “Palestinians” prior to 1948. There were Arabs, Jews, Samaritans, etc. but people associated themselves by religion primarily and language secondarily
