Calling a vulture a buzzard is like calling a tsunami a tidal wave. Buzzards are hawks.

if you get close to them, it is amazing how large they really are. They do a necessary service getting rid of the carcasses that pile up around my house.

We have tons of vultures around our house. They sit up on our power poles and sun their huge wings. Beautiful!

I’m old enough remembering very few of Black- and Turkey Vultures until the Interstate Highway System was built!

Here in East Texas along with black and turkey buzzards, we also have carracarra (Mexican eagle).

As an aside, eagles also eat carrion.
