They had alittle time as some were leaving by boat, but I think (from a documentary) They ran out of time.
Also, even in harbor the eruption took out sea vessels.
Sounds like Kamala’s ancestor.
The relationship between quakes and tsunamis was understood (not the science, just the relationship), as seen by Poseidon Earthshaker — Greek god of the seas and quakes. In Greece, the Aegean, etc, the sea is often nearby.
Volcanoes were known and attributed to Roman Vulcan (Greek Hephaestus) but not all mountains are/were volcanoes, and the last major eruption of Vesuvius was already more than 1000 years in the past when it blew in 79 AD. The fertility of the soil was recognized, but the fact that it was a volcano was not. Whoops.
quake in 62 AD:

A woman’s remains were unearthed with a collection gold, silver and bronze coins with a man laying nearby.
...so... a man AND a woman were unearthed?
Apparently, according to that little piece from Wikipedia, that I found, the lava flow and other superheated material was traveling at over 60 mph…
That’s pretty hard to outrun… All those poor folks got a glimpse of Hell before dying
Re Hephaestus/vulcan:
The Armorer of the gods, correct?
Re “… The relationship between quakes and tsunamis was understood (not the science, just the relationship…”
One has to wonder how much knowledge of natural earth science and other disciplines was lost when the great library of Alexandria burned…
Similar to when the barbarians overran Rome and destroyed everything Roman…
Cataclysmic loss of knowledge
.
The barbarians are always at the gates, so I made a note, "bigger gates". :^)
Yup, and he was also called “Crookshank” because he had a bum leg. That’s why the character was named that in “Gunsmoke”.
It was her divorce lawyer. The ex-husband left town in time.
The “Gunsmoke” character was Festus, short for Hephaistos. :^)
👍🙂
Holy crap I did not know that lol!!!
That’s too damn funny actually
Maybe they tried to shelter in place and waited too long to leave… he just needed to send one more email for his boss… then they ran out into the street and the man got run over by a fleeing cart wagon and broke his leg. Then he couldn’t run OR walk, so they tried to find a closet to hide in. They he had to listen to the woman bitching that if they had only left when she wanted to, he would have not been run over by a donkey cart and they would have made it, but nooooo he had to put his work as a priority and never thought of her neeeeeeds. He got so tired of her nagging him that he prayed for Zeus to end his misery … and there they are.
Re…” he had to listen to the woman bitching that if they had only left when she wanted to, he would have not been run over by a donkey cart and they would have made it, but nooooo he had to put his work as a priority and never thought of her neeeeeeds. ”
Holy crap that’s probably THE most accurate analysis ever!! Lmao!
LOL… I am strangely tied in to the masculine energy. Sometimes I freak men out.
Only on a very fast horse going thd correct direction. So tragic for those people.
