There was a cadre here in the days of W who expressed similar positions. Better the Dems won, they said, than support non-conservative positions. The people will wake up when the country goes to heck and then they’ll support a Real Conservative(tm).
Two flaws:
- Leftists cheat, they’ve always cheated (see Poe, Edgar Allen, Tammany Hall, etc. ad nauseam), and when they get power they entrench corruption so that it stops mattering what the people want.
- Whatever you call it — zeitgeist, “Overton window,” or whatever, people get used to situations almost no matter how bad. We’ve very adaptable and survival-oriented, but the left uses that. From butt people to masks, give people a little time and they’ll treat whatever hell as the new normal and resist changing back.
For these reasons the only way to win is to win. We can fix elections when we win elections; we can affirm the 2A when we win elections; states can address social ills when we win elections. We do not win on any issue whatsoever by throwing the game with puffed chest and cordial firmly in hand.
Because French and his fellow-travellers ranging from 30 Pence to Bolton and many others are not stupid, I assume they know this and are therefore enemies of freedom.
The difference is Trump is NOT a RINO at all.
