Yucky UK

We always knew the Brits didn’t have free speech, but now we’re learning it even harder.

There’s a funny internet meme that uses a still frame from a British sketch comedy show in which two naïve Nazis wonder aloud, “Are we the baddies?” The conservative humor site Twitchy is fond of referencing that joke whenever the U.K. government treats George Orwell’s 1984 as an instruction manual instead of a warning. These days, the joke is everywhere because the world is watching Britain nosedive into abject tyranny.

U.K. officials do not like dissent. They do not like free speech. And they certainly do not like it when ordinary citizens criticize the government. For these reasons, the authoritarians across the pond caution their domestic serfs: “Think before you post.” Included in that ominous threat is the promise that the Crown will come after anyone for “inciting hatred” online. What is “hatred”? Why, that’s for government functionaries to decide and for lowly commoners to find out! In a bit of cowardly arm-twisting meant both to encourage community snitching and to terrify concerned family members, Big Brother underscores its warning with this doozy: “Remind those close to you to share responsibly or face the consequences.” The government’s thought police would hate for something bad to happen to someone you love. So don’t force them to be the baddies, okay?

Holy moly, what has happened to the home of the Magna Carta? Did MI5 rip that document to smithereens? Years ago, the wayward nitwit Prince Harry got into some hot water by dressing up as a Nazi for a costume ball. The public was aghast that a member of the Royal Family could be so daft as to minimize the atrocities of the fascist thugs who nearly conquered Europe.

British TOTALITARIANS are in lockstep with other like-minded around the world. The sun never sets on their dystopian empire.

The British have never had that. At best a couple of decades around WWII, but in general the Brit’s have always lived under tyranny, a nobility serving a monarch, no right to vote until after WWI, and in ac few decades fell into socialism. And now the socialists have flooded the nation with the most violent sect on the planet and they back then with anarcho-tyranny.

Britain has only ever had the smallest taste of freedom.

An unfortunately accurate summary of the history and present reality. I visited in April ‘23, and was repulsed. The vibe was heavily tyrannical, and there was no England there...

It is so sad what is happening in Europe, parts of which I have affection for and long-standing connections to. It is truly watching the death of a civilization.

Anyway, I recently heard on an interview the statistic that Russia had detained 400 people for writing “bad” stuff on the internet one year.

The same year, over 3000 people were detained for the same in the UK.

"We always knew the Brits didn’t have free speech, but now we’re learning it even harder."

This goes back to the lengthy British monarchy. You couldn't speak ill of the King, or Queen, couldn't even talk about him dying while he was still alive, without being labeled a traitor and executed. Britain has brought back its medieval laws to punish the people for speaking the truth.

I have connections to many parts of Europe was well, even Melania's homeland of Slovenia. All we've ever heard from the left is that that the U.S. should be more like Europe. Screw that crap!! If I wanted to live like they do in Europe, I'd fricking move there. We saved their asses twice, but neither time did they ever learn a lesson from it.

A lot of them hate us for it. We’ve heard their crap, John Wayne and Reagan the cowboy sneers. We haven’t learned our lesson from it either. We’re trying to save the nasty ingrates again. This time from Russia.

I'm not trying to save them or any other country. They made their bed...they can sleep in it. The UK government is more of a threat to the British people than Russia will ever be, just like this administration, and the RAT party are a bigger threat to American citizens than Russia could ever be. I don't give a crap about Russia or Ukraine. What I care about is this country, and the billions of unaccounted for taxpayer dollars being sent to support yet another proxy war with Russia. We've been fighting proxy wars with Russia and China since the Korean War, and the only individuals who have won anything from them in the past 71 years, are the bastards with investments in the military industrial complex. And that means politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Sorry. I agree with you on all of that. I wasn’t aiming at you with that. I was aiming at those supporting it all again.
