I started walking about 6 weeks ago. Am averaging about 3mi/day but have no idea how many steps that is.

What’s the best way to measure step count?

All smartphones have ability to count steps. You just need to download a health app (most of them are free). The iPhone already has a health app built in and that's what I use.

If you are one of those without a smartphone, there are Fitbit devices that you wear on your wrist like a watch.

All the above are way more accurate than the pedometers I used to clip to my belt back in the old days!

I have an Android Phone that came with the Google Fit app that measures steps. It works OK, I even put a step counter on the home page.

A “fitbit” type of device is best. It goes on your wrist like a bracelet and keeps track for you.

Download a pedometer on your phone as a free app. Keep the phone in a front pocket.

Looks like 3 miles is between 6,500 steps and 6,700 steps, with 4.5 miles being around 10,000 steps.

I’ve used my iPhone to track my daily steps for over 8 years. It depends on the length of your stride, but the distance you noted is in the 7k to 8k step range.

Average step in pacing for me was 2'-6" so I just divided that per mile then multiply the miles." Of course you can buy a counter, easier:>)

My guess is that the three miles is around 8000 steps a day.

The best way to measure is to use an Apple Watch linked to your iPhone. It gives you steps, miles, and many other measurements and is very easy to use.
