Susan Wojcicki, former YouTube CEO, died at 56 after living with lung cancer. Wojcicki led YouTube from 2014 to 2023. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Troper, and their children.
Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, died "after two years of living with cancer," Alphabet CEO Sunder Pichai wrote on X, adding that he was "unbelievably saddened by the loss." She was 56.
"She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it's hard to imagine the world without her," Pichai continued. "She was an incredible person, leader and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I'm one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her. We will miss her dearly. Our thoughts with her family. RIP Susan." Wojcicki is survived by her mother, journalist and educator Esther Wojcicki; her sisters, Janet, an anthropologist and epidemiologist, and Anne, the cofounder and CEO of 23andMe; her husband, Dennis Troper, and their four living children.
Wojcicki was predeceased by her father, Polish American physicist Stanley Wojcicki, and her son Marco, who died in February of this year. He was 19 years old.
Wojcicki married Troper in 1998.
On Facebook, Troper wrote on Friday night: "My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non small cell lung cancer."
"Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many," Troper wrote.
Many prominent tech figures have also paid tribute to the late executive.
Marc Benioff, the CEO of Salesforce, described Wojcicki in a post on X as "a trailblazer in the industry, an exemplary mother, and a cherished friend."

I have seen more than one billionaire pass away in their 50s or early 60s. Death comes to us all. Even to those who can afford the latest and the greatest doctors and hospitals.Wojcicki lived in California, where the elite life extension specialists practice. With large clienteles of Hollywood people and Silicon Valley people.
Who?
She censored videos that questioned Big Pharma.
Because of her censorship, many YouTube viewers took the vax who otherwise wouldn't have.
Well, short accidents and war.

I thought the script downloads were an automatic thing — that is, Youtube/Google wouldn’t care if you’re logged in. Youtube would just see you IP address and go for it.
Yup—political and health and science censors are the lowest form of scum—and her censorship may have killed many thousands of people.
She was just in the news when her son died.
Shame that she censored information - some of which might have helped her.
According to the CDC (yeah I know) 10 to 20 percent of lung cancers are with non smokers. Other possible causes they suggest are second hand smoke (yeah I know), radon, air pollution, genetics, asbestos, arsenic, and some forms of silica and chromium.
A double point in her favour for not being like her mother on this point.
Thanks for the clarification.
God has no grandchildren, to quote my Mother.
The $64 question is was it turbo cancer with the vax? All those secondary causes may have not produced cancer until she was in her 90’s without the vax.
The more important lesson is not using your wealth and success to harm others.
” I remember reading the interview and it turns out her sister was married to the founder and she just happened to get a job at google. That’s not parenting, that’s networking and who you know.”
True, true. Esther’s book should have been “How to Raise a Doctor”... because in the case of the other two, let’s face it, the “how to” is basically:
Step 1. Have your daughter her garage to Sergey Brin and Larry Page for their startup enterprise.
Step 2. Have her sister marry Sergey Brin.
True but it would surprise me if her family or doctors would ever admit to it.
I don’t know what a “script download” is, but I use a VPN, so Google doesn’t know my IP address.
Wow, they never let up.
She censored my YouTube account.
I can’t imagine anything worse than losing a child.
