Thanks. We have Linux; we’ve used it for a long time.
I was just thanking you for your post to the glossary. There are parts of it I haven’t used yet, but would like to learn to use.
Relatively very few PC users care about, know and experience the level of customization and enhancements that greatly improve Windows and that are quite easy to implement. Not only the free Classic Shell and Explorer Patcher mentioned above, and choosing from 200 tweaks enabled by the free and reputable Ultimate Windows Tweaker 5, and the many Winaero features of the Winaero Tweaker - none of which free, no strings programs infect or bloat the OS, while the free MS certified AutoRuns will enable you to see and deselect (run as administrator from the right click menu on the program);
but also remapping keys (like CapsLock to copy, and Esc to paste, and Numlock to Esc) via a AutoHotKey script. See post here.
Thanks be to God for such, to be used for the ultimate glory of God.
“You need to get out more. Dell has been selling PCs pre-installed with Linux for decades.”
Now hold on... There is a question about if Dell’s Alienware is a Linux or if it is just an environment that let’s you install a 3rd party Linux.
Oh yes, Sorry about that. Yes, the Glossary is a huge help figuring out what the Linux guys are talking about.
The OS is the "mind" of the PC, being software instructions. The desktop environment is the front yard with access to locations and tools.
What are examples of currently used and popular desktop environments like the one I'm using with Windows 11?
Linux has multitudinous "flavors," and quite a few desktop environments, while Windows 11 is similar to 10, though overall negatively changed, as was 10 from 7, while the change from XP was more pronounced. Which gave birth to tweakers to restore some lost or changed functions.
What is the best version of Gimp or similar image manipulation software that works with Linux?
I do a lot of craft-y stuff...
I have to confess I am not much into working with images so I can’t honestly say personally. But... I have a crew who does. They use Gimp, online graphic tools, and are even into AI and writing graphic novels.
Let me get together with them and see what they recommend for you. :)
It is the editing ability that is great! I’m sure you have tried to use your cursor to point out things, or set a delay and run around and open extra stuff/windows before it snaps. lol
That is just great, Wonder why it took so long for someone to finally figure that out. THANKS!
Check out krita- free program kind 9f like photoshop- but not quite. I use that instead of gimp-
“Check out krita.”
Thank you, Krita is the suggestion I am getting from my end too!
And it is available through the default software manager repository. :)
