[MENSA] Qualifying Test Scores
American Mensa ^ | Indeterminate | American Mensa

Posted on 08/08/2024 9:35:05 AM PDT by fwdude

American Mensa accepts scores from approximately 200 different standardized intelligence tests*. Often potential members have taken acceptable tests at other times in their lives and donโ€™t realize they may already qualify for membership.

I had no idea, always thought that an IQ test was required to get into MENSA. The list of qualifying scores is quite broad.

I found it interesting that the more recent (last 25 years or so) test scores are not acceptable as these "tests no longer correlate with an IQ test." Dumbing down, perhaps?

I only looked into this as an enhancer to my professional resume online. I think I made it with my ACT score from a million years ago.

I made it in back in the 80s (yeah, I "read" Playboy's "Women of Mensa" article). Didn't really help except some folks thought I was being a braggy snog. lol

Wanna try something that sets you apart, try the Prometheus Society (only 1 in 25000 or so get in) instead of Mensa's 1 in 300 or whatever it is now.

“Prometheus Society”

Oooh, that sounds esoteric and wicked. I like it!

One reason I want to achieve a Mensa membership is to shove it in the faces of leftists in various interactions who depict conservatives as backwards, knuckle-dragging neanderthals who could never graduate college.

I took the test through mail in, the fee was $10- they sent back my results with a sympathy card and $20

Well, in THAT case... lol! Also, get a doctorate (run you about $40 as I recall) and then really blast ‘em out of space and time!

That’s a money making opportunity! But they figured only a Mensa member would see it ...

Yeah, I’m quickly coming to realize that Mensa is the Walmart intelligence club.

I never needed their social validation, same as the DAR. I belong to Jesus and that’s all I need, not the world’s accolades.

I’m sure there are plenty of snobs in Mensa but also a lot of people who just want some credentials and certain comradery.

I may have already qualified without trying so there is nothing to lower.

Mensa-smensa...

I dated an English Woman for a while and she was “mensa” and was always informing people of that.

She may have thought that made her better than others. In her own mind anyway.

I will state that she was dumber than a toothpick when it came to common sense, street smarts and running a business.

In this case a Bar & Grille. Beer, liquor and wine sell themselves. She hardly ever broke even on Food sales. I told her to let Me run the kitchen and menu for Lunchtime. I did basic American food like Meatloaf with taters and veggies, Chicken Fried Steak and cream gravy with choice of taters and veggies, Pot Roast, Hamburger Steak, Cheese Steak sandwich and such. The 1st week tripled the Lunchtime sales and 6 times the next week because people spread the word about it. Without any advertising other than word of mouth.

We broke up a while after that and she went back to her original Lunchtime plan and it continued to FAIL !!! Some people are just stupid.

Good news travels fast but bad news travels faster.

I qualify on two counts. Stanford Binet (1959) 134 and LSAT (1986) 96%. I probably qualify with me PSAT, but I don’t remember my score, but it was high. I just miss on the SAT (1969).

I’ve known a couple of Mensa members and interestingly they weren’t rocket scientists. They were weird little guys who were very smart, but also marginally successful in mediocre jobs. They were for lack of a better word misfits. Very bright, very nice misfits, but people who just didn’t quite fit into normal society.

I learned in MENSA that IQ tests measure intelligence, they don’t measure sanity, honesty, decency or common sense.

I qualify for Mensa, but never bothered.

I know a guy who does Mensa get togethers, and my observation correlates with yours.

Most smart people are in jobs where they have lots of other very smart people to talk with.

Most Mensa people are smart but dysfunctional.

ROFL. A 1250 SAT (so anyone who qualified for college entry at all, really)? A 132 IQ test?
