when I was in school kids has pocket knives and no one thought anything of it. Back then kids were not complete psychos. Some kids sat on the playground and widdled wood in their down time, then put the knife away when it was time to go to class.

I was a cub scout. It was a big day when I got my knife safety badge. I had one of those with a fork, knife and a spoon. This thing huge but wore it on my belt with pride to school

I'm 80....and a girl...always had a pocket knife to play mumbletey peg. It had a nice pearl handle.

It was that or marbles. Always carried them, too.

When I was in grade school we sold magazine subscriptions or candy or something else, I can’t remember now. If we sold enough, we got to choose from a sort of catalog of things as a payment. I chose a knife from the catalog. It was a cheap version of a Swiss Army knife. I think I still have it somewhere.

We also had high school kids with pickup trucks with gun racks behind the drivers.

During hunting season-—all these trucks were parked at school until 3 PM, when there was still 2 hours of deer hunting to be done.
