Seven months after a mother was killed in a gun fight between drug dealers outside of a supervised injection site my family lives across the street from, a class action lawsuit was filed today in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, naming the South Riverdale Community Health Centre, which operates the site, as well as both the federal and provincial ministries of health and the city of Toronto.
The $650M fight to save the Isthmus of Chignecto, the narrow strip of marshland connecting N.B. and N.S.
The two named plaintiffs — a nearby resident and business — claim the defendants failed to “adhere to or enforce the conditions imposed by” Toronto City Council in the 2016 implementation guide it adopted for the city’s first three supervised drug consumption sites, which included the one at South Riverdale.
As a result, the lawsuit states, the surrounding neighbourhood in the heart of the east Toronto community of Leslieville experienced several public and private nuisances, including disorderly conduct, human waste, discarded needles, “the sale and use of illicit drugs, assault, theft, vandalism, property damage and trespass” — all of which caused it to suffer “harm, loss, damage” and an array of expenses. The fatal shooting of Karolina Huebner-Makurat on July 7, 2023, just meters from the supervised injection site, is included in the criminal activity cited in the lawsuit.

...Back in 1992, small time operators were working the dead end niche populated by addicts and AIDS but when Obama announced in 2015 a new government powered cash cow, smart money noticed. Refer, once again to the charts shown at ProPublica.
I guess the smart money just didn’t notice that Behavioral Science EO bought the government more power. That draw to the cash cow must have been a strong indicator of the People’s empathetic state which was assuredly recognized and pointed out to Obama as another opportunity that only someone with his vision could perceive because the following year the express line opened at the money trough again and the sharks came out to feast.

My interpretation is it is much worse than that. Others would say we have to care for the sick. Others would answer your question with, more or less.
