So Team (W)USA's quest for their 8th straight Gold Medal started off on the right foot yesterday with a 102-76 victory over Japan. That result is not the point of this blog, seeing as the team has not even lost a GAME in Olympic play since 1992. My eyebrows didn't raise a millimeter when I saw they won big. However one stat from yesterday's game that did suprise me was to hear that of all the games played thus far, Team USA's was the least attended by a mile.
Look I'm not saying that their cranky head coach Cheryl Reeve needed to bring Caitlin Clark with her on this trip to Paris to take home the gold. I think it's more than obvious that they do not, seeing as Diana Taurasi's 42 year old ass is starting for this team that won't play within single digits of anyone all tournament. But what I am saying is that if Caitlin Clark WAS on this team, at least people would care about it. If a team wins the gold medal but no one watches tree falls in the woods but no one hears it, does it make a sound?
Find me another team in any league or sport where the head and shoulder favorites with the most talent and the most notable players is the lowest attended. Two times as many people went to watch Spain vs. China? More people went to see Serbia vs. Puerto Rico? Nigeria vs. Australia? This is like if everyone showed up on a Friday night to watch the JV game and then went home before the Varsity started.

Serbia vs. Puerto Rico - 15,324
Nigeria vs. Australia - 24,023
Germany vs. Belgium - 20,211 France vs. Canada - 20,211
USA vs. Japan - 13,040.
So all the other games had at least one European country. And of course everybody knew the result of the USA game ahead of time, and was probably the least competitive. Not really a surprise.
Caitlin Clark.
No one likes countries that are going communist. Especially if they win.
Right. Not sure what the writer’s point is.
How do you explain Nigeria vs. Australia game?
I’m surprised that TV network executives weren’t putting pressure on the committee to include her. CC on the team would have meant big viewing ratings.
Is the writer saying that the USA team has a 42 y/o woman
(Diana Taurasi) playing for them?
Good for Diana, if so, but I thought there would be some age restrictions here. Apparently not.
Maybe the same thing is done with men’s Olympic basketball.
I don’t closely follow sports, so I may have overlooked it.
haven’t watch a second of it and probably won’t be....I like track so we’ll see if I change my mind...
I guess it's because they're woke.
That’s what you get for being the racist ball team
Not a foregone conclusion. Also Commonwealth. Plenty of people from Commonwealth countries will root for other Commonwealth countries as long as it isn’t bad for their country’s team. It’s like NCAA conferences.
No one watching? Simple. The Olympic basketball team’s anti white racist snub of Clark tells whites to sit down and shut up. So we have.
So you didn’t want Clark? So NOBODY is watching any of you. Go suck Lesbo p***y. No one wants to watch you black racist extremists.
The Japanese team probably averages a foot shorter in height (though it looks like they have one tall black girl on the team… must be a story behind that). It is hard not to root for such underdogs.
According to the blind Master Poe, wisest of the monks at the Shaolin temple in Hunan, it does not. And if Master Poe says it does not, then as far as I'm concerned the question has been definitively answered.
“But what I am saying is that if Caitlin Clark WAS on this team, at least people would care about it.”
Spot on. Caitlin is “box office.” The coach/committee chose politics over box office. Thus they play in empty arenas.
Ms. Clark was denied a place on the team?
Pretty good bet that I would watch if Clark was on the team. I think she was kept off the team because she’s straight and white, so F’em.
I think she’s an alternate. I don’t know if she made the trip.
