Every human society has had some form of mind altering substance in its knowledge base. Typically alcohol.

Even South American Natives in the jungles of the upper Amazon, have a way of making an alcoholic beverage by chewing the insides of a certain palm tree and spitting it into a hollow log and letting it ferment.

Inuit ferment fish heads.....................

Alcohol is not the kind of “mind altering” substance that the theory is discussing.
