I fear that as America slides from a first world Banana Republic into a second world and even third world Banana Republic where political unrest and assignations are common, America will follow suit.
Probably true. In the U.S., we have always had poor presidential security. Look at history.
McKinley was much better than Roosevelt.
The Secret Service dropped the ball on March 30, 1981 as they allowed a fairly large group of unvetted people to get up close behind the press line, just a few feet away from where President Reagan was due to emerge from the hotel towards his limousine. Hinckley was right there with his revolver and nobody was aware of it.
[Then President-elect Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1933 in Miami, was the target of anarchist Giuseppe Zangara, who missed Roosevelt but shot five others, including the mayor of Chicago, Anton Cermak, who died. ]
It occurred to me when I first watched the footage of the attempt on Trump that rather than clumsily shielding him with their bodies alone, a better solution might be to have some kind of bulletproof blanket type item they could throw over the intended target. I believe items like that have been developed for EOD teams that could be adapted. Though I admit the imagery of Trump emerging from a blanket to give his fist pump does seem less inspiring.

Didn’t Hillary enjoy watching Gadhafi get assassinated with rebar forced up his behind?
Much has been speculated about this attempted assassination of Trump. Was there one shooter or more than one, how did this person get on this roof in the first place without being stopped. Was it a conspiracy or incompetence or a combination of both.
All worth investigating. In today’s climate even if I was given the truth I am not sure I would believe it. We have been lied to so much, been told this is the truth only to learn later it was not.
Here is my thought/question
Let’s assume that the single shooter on the roof a 130 yards or so away from the presumptive nominee of the Republican Party for president and former President was all there was. No conspiracy within or without the govt. Just one lone gunman with his own reasons for doing this.
He came within mm of succeeding. Here I will add some levity “ my wife left me because she said I wasn’t American enough, I should have seen this from a kilometer away”. Okay back to subject.
Real simple question, if Trump survived this attack only through luck when being attacked by a clumsy amateur, with the “worlds best” security apparatus protecting him how could he possibly survive an attack by trained professionals esp an inside job?
What? No mention of George Wallace’s assassination attemp, or Rabbi Meir Kahane’s murder?
Sounds like we need to put bullet proof Plexiglas around the SS.
Its bullet proof from both sides.
duh
In most of the world assassinations are political conspiracies.
In the US the public has been brainwashed to believe it is always “lone nuts”.
What was adequate medical attention at the time isn’t what we think of as adequate medical attention today. If I remember correctly, Garfield’s chief doctor after the assassination didn’t believe in the germ theory of infection. There were people at the time who did, but respectable medical opinion wasn’t yet convinced of the necessity of sterilization practices.
Also, what was adequate secret service protection varied over the years. Understand that early on presidents had days when they shook hands with hundreds of visitors to the White House. Lincoln probably could have been saved if his bodyguard didn’t decide to go drinking, but Garfield and McKinley probably would have been shot because a massive security presence wasn’t considered, let alone deemed necessary, back then.
