They promised to host the “greenest” Olympics ever, a Games that would double as an eco-friendly model for a warming world. All involved in the planning of Paris 2024, from the IOC to politicians, seemed to be on board. They touted a plan to halve the carbon footprint of the Olympics. They’d ditch diesel generators for renewable energy; they’d shun gas-guzzling buses for electric vehicles; they’d repurpose existing venues and build repurposable ones, with seats made from recycled plastic.

We should cancel the Olympics. They used to be cool. But now they’re lame. No one wants to host the Olympics anymore.
In the old days, we complained about the Soviets and East Germans sending defacto professional athletes against our amateurs. Rather than fixing the problem by getting rid of the pros, we just joined them, making the event something different.
I was done with the Olympics a while ago. This year woke one is not even in my consciousness.
I used to never miss the Olympics.
Haven’t watched one in the last 15 years or so. It’s not the same.
Waste of resources, air, food, fuel not to mention the hundreds of thousands of condoms that are provided for this big hook up event - and for what? Trans athletes to showcase their power and strength over women and free PR for athletes to get antiperspirant and shoe endorsements?
Sorry, but I am tired of this political BS and the cheating as well as the satanic opening festivities that has happened at past Olympics.

Agreed. We've destroyed the Olympics by allowing the pros to play in it. It's supposed to be for amateurs.

The original Olympics in Ancient Greece were also competitions between professional athletes and amateurs. The pride and prestige that Greek city states gained fro winning at the Olympics drove them to support professional athletes. What is wrong with the games now is that the Olympic committee makes insane money demands and the price of attending is far too high for the average citizens.
Pakistan would win the long jump if you put a lonely goat at the end.
That, and allowing non sports in. Any activity that is judged subjectively should not be a competitive event regardless of the athleticism involved.
The Olympics in L.A. turned out to be a huge success because we did not build anything new and we used existing facilities we had in the city (by college and pro teams).
So that should be the footprint for the future Olympics.
Instead, the IOC became greedy and demanded the host city to build new facilities. So now no one wants to do it anymore. Funny thing is that it'll be L.A. in 2028 and SLC in 2034. And they will use existing infrastructure.
