9 minutes long but well worth a listen .
Jammed with subtext. Thoughtful, well-spoken people everywhere. High trust society - the interviewer lets them hold the mic. Some relationship to law and order that I can’t define (idealistic? theoretical?), but at least two people said effectively, “Shooting someone should not be allowed.”
WOW that is amazing!! Look at that, all around the world people are impressed all except our liberals, unreal.
“My wife is Japanese. They are amazing people. I was just there and they still work like crazy...covid didn’t destroy their work ethic. And it is so cheap to live there now. Seriously considering moving there.”
Mine is , too . I’ve lived in Japan since 1985 . If you are over here using US$ I guess one could say it is cheap-ish as the dollar is strong against the yen now . If you live here and live on yen , it can be somewhat inexpensive depending on one’s lifestyle . My wife and I ate out last night at a family run sushi/izakaya type restaurant which we frequent 3-4 times a month . I had 8 pieces of sushi ( tuna , salmon , sea bream , amberjack , shrimp , salmon eggs , scalllop ) and the wife had a simmered sea bream set ( with miso soup , rice , veggies ) . I had a glass of shochu mixed with hot water . Bill was 3000 yen - $ 20 at current exchange rate . Cheap !
Funny hearing the interviewers gaijin accent
You know Xi is fretting his election
In the USA that would cost $50 at least.
Where do you live? I was just in Yokohama (wife’s hometown) and Nagano (her 160 year old family home...which we may inherit). I loved both places.
Very.
“Where do you live?”
Kumamoto City since 2016 . Before that 21 years in my wife’s hometown in the mountains of Aso County in Kumamoto Prefecture , and before that 10 years in Kanaagwa and Saitama very close to Tokyo not countryside .
Dang you’re down south. My step-son (wife’s son) just got stationed in Okinawa. So I’ll be visiting there “soon”.
I caught the anti-gun stuff too.
To me it’s a fact that the lefts fear of guns is the only thing stopping them from instituting full communism right now. I don’t think they could get by with it even in their own blue states, with exception to Kalifornia.
Wife and I went to Okinawa last year for the first time . Loved the place , but pardon me for saying so there are way too many Americans and bases there . Still occupied more or less . The Okis share way too big a burden . Add all the sexual assaults , rapes , etc. over the years it is no wonder they want the Yanks to go home .
I lived in Japan for several years, and not in the least bit surprised they seem to universally admire and like Trump and think he has guts.
When Japan lost WW2 they were told they have to give X% of land to the US for military bases. They gave 80% to Okinawa. Okinawans already hated Japense...and now they hate them even more.
Which is why out of all the countries we have a presence in it’s only Okinawa that has so many rape cases. Not saying all claims are false, but what really happens is a young women has sex with a military service member...her family finds out...she feels shame and claims it’s rape.
“but what really happens is a young women has sex with a military service member...her family finds out...she feels shame and claims it’s rape.”
No doubt this has happened , but a rarity judging by what I have read on Japanese and American news . It’s not only rapes , mind you , but sexual assaults , kidnapping , etc...Don’t understand why you are so quick to doubt the Japanese women .
It’s the Okinawa women I doubt. And it’s because it appears to happen there way way way more than anywhere else in the world (including the rest of Japan).
Okinawans actually don’t like Japanese. And the end of the war Japan gave USA most the island. So they really hate Americans too. An Okinawan girl having sex with an American is like a 1950s white woman having a black boyfriend. Her parents would make her say she was raped for the family honor. I guarantee you that is happening a lot in Okinawa.
One out of 4 people living on Okinawa are US military . Where else in the world does the US military comprise 1/4 of the population of an area ? Women’s fault ? A few , maybe , but not the majority by any stretch of the imagination . You are too quick to defend the US . Remember the case of the 12 year old who was gang raped there ? Was it her fault ? Status Of Forces Agreement allows the military justice system the right of first refusal for investigating and prosecuting U.S. troops who are suspected of committing off-base crimes in cases where the service member has violated both the Uniform Code of Military Justice and Japanese law !
You agree with me though when your day some of them sure.
So which ones were lying since you agree with me.
