They are. It's the national reptile and the area where this happened is a protected forest reserve for King Cobras.
Also a lot of ignorant comments on this topic. King Cobras rarely attack people and unless it's a female protecting her nest (the only snake to build a nest), they are not aggressive. As others have pointed out, this is a snake eater and if it enters habitat areas, it's usually in pursuit of other snakes. Some of those snakes are highly venomous and are responsible for a lot of deaths.
